Career Learning at Welton Primary School

We believe it is never too early to inspire and motivate young minds! We are trialling a career currriulum based on the Career Development Institute Primary Framework launched in 2022 (Click here to view our Welton career progression document). We look to embed career related learning into all areas of our curriculum and always enjoy speaking to visitors from the world of work. We are proud to host an annual careers event in the school - the highlight of which is meeting new people and opening our minds to job opportunities. Over the years we have been visited by:

  • A Royal Navy submariner engineer
  • A risk analyist
  • A bridge designer
  • Ministry of Defence air support
  • An expedition leader
  • Fitness trainer
  • Occupational therapist
  • Nurse
  • Vet
  • Farmer
  • Computer programmer
  • Air traffic control programmer
  • Architect
  • Police

There is no doubt that our visitors really inspire our children about the world of work and the importance of being the best you can be - and following your dreams! Our innovative approach to Primary Careers has been recognised in a 2019 published research report entitled 'What Works - Career-related learning in Primary Schools' published by Education and Employers Research and The Careers and Enterprise Company (Click here to read).

In January 2023, Mr Snell was invited to speak to MPs at the Education Select Committee in Westminster, to share the exciting work that we do at Welton. Click here to read more!

Mr Snell recently presented our work to a room of business leaders in London where a wonderful photostory was showcased to great applause! We have also been recognised in an online publication for Primary Futures (CLICK HERE to view). Some of our amazing careers work was recently showcased at a business event at Drapers Hall in London and Mr Snell and Mrs Hollidge were recently invited to Downing Street with two children from Year 6 to meet the Prime Minister to discuss career related learning - an amazing experience!
